Christ's Hospital community music

The atmosphere in all the groups is friendly, informal and welcoming - just turn up to one of the rehearsals and either watch to see what goes on or join in straight away.

Christ's Hospital Choral Society

The Choral Society is an adult choir of over 100 voices, open to anybody from the Horsham area who enjoys singing. The choir has a lot of fun but tackles challenging music.

The choir gives three main concerts a year. The first, in November, normally with an organ or small group of instruments. In March is a performance of a major Choral work with orchestra in Christ's Hospital's main Concert Hall. The final concert is in June and consists of shorter, lighter repertoire. The choir aims sufficient funds through Concert-giving and workshops to contribute to a chosen charity.

The choir holds no auditions, but expects members to be able to sing in tune, and to take music away to practice with the assistance of tapes if they cannot sight-sing.

Strings

Strings" is a group of orchestras based at CH drawing on children from the surrounding schools. There are three different orchestras, covering different standards, and each group gives at least one concert per term. These concerts are open to parents and friends and are usually held in the magnificent surroundings of Big School at the heart of the Christ's Hospital site. In recent years, however, concerts have been held in the Queen Elizabeth Hall on London's South Bank, Holy Trinity Church, Guildford and St. Mary's Billingshurst. A few years ago one of the groups went on tour to Denmark performing several concerts in Copenhagen.

The Horsham Children's Choir and Youth Choir

The Horsham Children's Choir and Horsham Youth Choir are based at Christ's Hospital but consist entirely of children from the surrounding area. Both choirs sing at least one concert per term which ranges from selections of light music, through Christmas carols to works with orchestral accompaniment. Recent venues have included All Saints, Roffey, Horsham Methodist Church and St. Mary's, Billingshurst.
