Community Action - SNAC
NATIONAL STRATEGY FOR COMMUNITY ACTION
As an extension of our work in the local community, CH has been working
in placement centres and special schools in Romania, establishing projects
of integration between able bodied and disabled children with special
needs which include such educational activities as art, music, drama,
sport, computing and aromatherapy.
These activities provide the opportunity for all involved to enjoy
creative, expressive, imaginative and stimulating activities which
they would until now not normally experience in their ordinary school
programme in Romania.
Romanian High School students are a vital part of the projects. They
work in partnership with the English students during the projects and
then sustain them throughout the rest of the year.
From 2004 a National Strategy for Community Action, devised by Muir
John Potter, and based on CH's pioneering work in Romania since 1992,
has been in place.
This means that Community Action is available to students in their
High School curriculum -something described by the Ministry of Education
in Bucharest as a "turning point in Romanian Education".
We would like to thank all our volunteers, young and old alike (including
many Old Blues whose commitment to the Romania Project extends far
beyond their time at CH), for their invaluable contribution in realising
these dreams, which were quite simply unimaginable at the outset.
