Community Action in Romania

PARTNERSHIP and PROGRESS

1992 - 2004

  • Christ’s Hospital has organised 12 consecutive, annual Community Action projects in Romania since 1992
  • CH Community Action projects have involved over 1500 children with special needs and over 400 Romanian students and CH teachers and students
  • The projects have been organised in 7 different towns and cities – Sighisoara, Dumbraveni, Craiova, Onesti, Bucharest, Slobozia and Brasov
  • 12 different Special Needs Schools, Centres or Institutions have been included in these Community Action projects which involve Sport, Music, Art, Drama, Aromatherapy, Dance and Computing being organised into an educational programme of activities
  • CH has been responsible for the involvement of 4 other English schools in Community Action work in Romania
  • CH has also organised 5 training courses for Romanian students in a number of cities
  • 4 Educational Conferences have also been organised by CH at local and county level for Romanian teachers and student teacher training courses [fully certificated] have been run in both Drama and History for teachers and Directors in High Schools under the auspices of the Inspectorate of Schools

As a result of this work CH has been responsible for the development of a National Strategy for Community Action in Romania with Muir John Potter acting as Adviser to the Romanian Government.

This truly has enabled the “good name of CH” to be seen and heard well beyond the ring fence!
