Donation Governorships
Becoming a Donation Governor – A Gift for a Lifetime
Donation Governorships are an initiative exclusive to Christ’s Hospital and have been in existence for hundreds of years. Anyone who makes an unconditional donation of at least £16,000 towards pupils' education can become a Donation Governor.
(Gifts can be made in stages, over a number of years and UK tax payers can make their gifts net of tax (£12,480).)
Donation Governors’ support is recognised by their election to the Court of Governors, which provides an opportunity to learn more about CH, the challenges it faces, its plans for the future and how it structures and manages its pastoral activities.
The most rewarding part of being a Donation Governor is the privilege of identifying a child who is facing social or financial need, and nominating or "Presenting" them to the School. This may be a child known to the Governor or a child recommended by our Admissions Registrar. All Presentees must pass the entrance exam for entry at age 11.
Governors choose how much involvement they wish to have with their Presentee. This could include attending concerts, fixtures, and School events as well as meeting their Presentee’s family and acting as a mentor. Research has consistently shown that children’s education and development benefits significantly from having the involvement of an interested adult.
"This has been very rewarding for me and the whole family. All giving is unconditional but you can see the benefit of such giving before your very eyes."
