About the Charity - a Philanthropic School
Christ's Hospital is one of the last and largest truly charitable schools offering suitable children – particularly those in social, financial or other need – the life-changing opportunity of a high quality boarding education.
The opportunity is available to children irrespective of the financial means of their families.
Established in 1552 by King Edward VI to care for poor and homeless children in London, the School is now located near Horsham in West Sussex. Over the centuries, the generosity of donors has built up an endowment that enables Christ's Hospital to maintain this charitable tradition.
Careful management of the Endowment, more vital then ever in economically difficult times, has enabled over 95% of the School’s pupils to be financially supported with the vast majority paying less than 10% of the cost of their education, and nearly 15% paying nothing. The Foundation relies upon continued prudent management and the generosity of donors to ensure that it can continue this very high level of support to the School.
