Talented Christ’s Hospital student, Amelie (DG/Year 12), has recently starred in not one, but two National Youth Music Theatre shows, having been offered a place in the NYMT last academic year. The budding performer has had a busy summer treading the boards, appearing in the popular Six: Teen Edition at Littlehampton, in which she played Anne Boleyn, as well as in Crescendo at The Other Palace in London.
For Crescendo, Amelie took part in a residential week, during which the young NYMT members were supported and nurtured in creating a performance alongside a world-class creative team. ‘I absolutely loved my experience’ says Amelie. ‘The concept of the show was to speak up using our own voices as young people in the performance industry, meaning we were performing as ourselves on stage, a difficult yet rewarding task. We, the cast members, contributed heavily with ideas for the content and dialogue, and had the opportunity to discuss what we shared with the audience – it was incredible to have the opportunity to share my thoughts on stage and really feel listened to as a young person!’
‘It is very exciting to see Amelie’s talent and dedication being recognised as she pursues her passion for musical theatre’ says Head Teacher at Christ’s Hospital, Simon Reid. ‘The entire Christ’s Hospital community looks forward to witnessing her continued success and to supporting her to achieve her dream.’
Amelie’s next role is in the upcoming Christ’s Hospital drama production Les Misérables, which takes place at the end of term, in early December.
Three of our students have recently been offered places at the National Youth Music Theatre, which was dubbed by Andrew Lloyd Webber ‘the best youth music theatre in the world’and offers talented young people aged 10 to 23 exceptional opportunities in pre-professional musical theatre training.
