On 29 January, Christ’s Hospital welcomed philosophy teacher and author Andy West for a philosophy lecture on how to rehabilitate prisons. Andy, who has been teaching philosophy in prisons for 10 years, is the author of The Life Inside: A Memoir of Prison, Family and Learning to be Free. The book has been adapted into a major six-part BBC drama series, Waiting for the Out, which is now airing on television.
The lecture, aimed at Theology & Philosophy and Psychology students, as well as anyone interested, was attended by senior students. Andy shared his insights on rehabilitation, prison education and the transformative power of philosophy, sparking a lively discussion with students afterwards.
