Beating Retreat 2023

The year finished with another successful Beating Retreat, of which the highlight was the closing part of the ceremony when Ikeoluwa (DG/Year 12) sang ‘Eternal Father, Strong to Save’, to mark the 350th anniversary of the charter for the Royal Mathematical School. The arrangement combined the hymn tune with the traditional Sunset and featured trumpet solos from Second Monitor Luke and Band Captain Jacob. Almost exactly a week prior to Beating Retreat, the Band had performed a similar ceremony in the Tower of London, to an audience that included no fewer than four Lord Mayors of London (past, present and future!).
