We were delighted that Jack Ferrell returned to Christ Hospital School to lead a talk on ‘Careers in Engineering’.
Jack studied at CH between 2004 and 2011, which he recalls was the start and foundation of his current career; he currently works at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. With a strong interest in Maths based subjects at school, he planned to study either finance or engineering at university. Jack went on to study Mechanical Engineering at UCL in London. After some practical projects at University and various work experience opportunities, his mind was set to pursue a career as an Engineer.
Jack joined the Graduate scheme at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars and has not looked back! In his talk to pupils, he explained that he spent his first years rotating around six different departments, mainly in Total Vehicle Quality and Validation, experiencing new model launches, extensive vehicle testing and living abroad in Germany for three months. Following the Graduate Scheme, he moved into Engineering and has been in his current role for two years as an Engineer in the Body and Exterior Trim department. He said that he is fortunate that he gets to work on new and interesting challenges every single day and he cannot recommend highly enough choosing an industry that you are fascinated by and will really enjoy every day. Pupils asked questions about routes into the industry, with many being interested in a degree apprenticeship.
Many thanks to Jack for returning to CH and leading such an informative talk.
