We are delighted to announce that one of our talented students, Joanah (DG/Year 12), has been offered a place on the Chineke! Junior Orchestra residential course this summer.
Joanah will benefit from a week of instrument-specific tuition and mentoring by Chineke! musicians, culminating in a full-scale symphony orchestra performance at a prestigious venue. Participants will also get to enjoy fun activities throughout the week like quiz nights, film nights, and open mic performances along with other like-minded young musicians.
As a student at Christ’s Hospital, Joanah has demonstrated unwavering commitment to her musical pursuits and has consistently impressed her teachers with her dedication and passion for music.
‘We are thrilled to see Joanah’s talent being recognised on such a wonderful platform,’ said James Bartlett, Director of Music at Christ’s Hospital. ‘Her offer of a place on the Chineke! Junior Orchestra course is a testament to her dedication and the guidance she has received from her teachers here at Christ’s Hospital. We have seen Joanah flourish over her time at CH: she is a fantastic “home-grown” talent, playing flute in the Band and singing in several choirs alongside her prowess on the violin. We are very proud of her and her achievement.’
The Chineke! Junior Orchestra is a youth orchestra of Black and ethnically diverse players aged 11-22. It was founded in 2015 with the aim of creating opportunities for emerging musicians of ethnically diverse heritage, giving its players experience, encouragement and confidence during their formative years.
