On 23 January, Christ’s Hospital hosted an evening of discussion and insight exploring alternative career routes and the changing nature of success in the modern workplace.
Students heard from a diverse panel of speakers who shared their career journeys, challenged traditional expectations and highlighted opportunities beyond conventional academic pathways. The event focused on apprenticeships, creative industries, entrepreneurship and the value of community and mentorship.
Speakers included Kwesi Bimpong and Elijah Olanipekun, co-founders of The Black Apprentice Network, who discussed widening access to apprenticeships and early-career opportunities; Samsung apprentice Pharrell Morgan, who reflected on the importance of peer support and mentoring; social entrepreneur and film-maker Amani Simpson, who spoke about creativity and social impact; and BAFTA-winning actor and writer Malachi Kirby, who offered insights into building a career in the creative industries.
Students engaged thoughtfully throughout the evening, asking questions and reflecting on the varied pathways on offer. The event reinforced the importance of broadening perspectives on career choices and recognising that success can take many forms.
