On 30 May, several of our students and parents travelled up to London to attend the Skinners’ Company Corpus Christi Day.
The day started with a buffet lunch at Vintners Hall, after which the attendants moved in procession to the church of St James, Garlick Hythe, close to Skinners’ Hall, for a special service. The procession then reformed and returned to Vintners Hall, where one of our students, Manasvi (DG/Year 12), was presented with the AW Aston Award by the Master of the Skinners Company. This prize is awarded annually to a Christ’s Hospital student for the best proposal for an adventure – be it physical, creative, artistic, social or intellectual – that will offer a development opportunity for the young person.
The Feast of Corpus Christi – always the Thursday after Trinity Sunday – is when The Skinners’ Company elects its Master and wardens. The Skinners’ Company has ‘presentation’ rights for four Christ’s Hospital students at any one time, which means they select and support the students for the duration of their studies. The Company selects a new presentee (student) in most academic years. Presentees wear the Skinners badge whilst they study, and a link is maintained with the Company via their nominated governor.
