Following a winter of hard work and dedicated practice, the CH cricketers were champing at the bit to get outside and hone their skills in preparation for the first competitive matches of the summer term.  However, the weather had other ideas and all the CH teams had to wait until the end of the second week of term to play their first matches.

The first XI hit the ground running, bowling out John Fisher for 89 runs, thanks largely to four wickets from Saul (GR/Year 13) and three outstanding catches from Tom (GR/Year 13).  Unfortunately, more rain arrived just as CH was about to bat and the match was declared a draw.  A similar fate for the second XI who, with the help of four wickets from Noah (GE/Year 11), restricted Hurstpierpoint to 110 runs.  During CH’s run chase, the rain fell and forced this match too to an early draw.  As we moved into week three, there was another excellent bowling performance, this time by LE (Year 9) student Jacob, who took four wickets in the U14 Blackshaw Cup match against Lancing College.

The U14 girls competed well against Lancing College, with Clara (LE/Year 9) being awarded player of the match and, as we reached the first leave weekend of the term, it was good to see the U15 girls’ team secure a comfortable draw against Box Hill.  A fine all-round performance from captain Hetty (GE/Year 11) resulted in her being awarded player of the match by the opposition.
