On 18 November, Christ’s Hospital welcomed two engineers from the James Dyson Foundation to give students a hands-on introduction to the world of engineering. Tailored workshops engaged different year groups: a robotics session for DG (Year 12) and a prototype workshop for UF and some LE (Years 10 and 9).

During the robotics session, students discovered how Dyson develops its products before programming robots to navigate a room and avoid obstacles. The activity encouraged them to apply engineering, electronics and problem-solving skills in a practical setting.

Meanwhile, in the prototype workshop, students tackled the challenge of air pollution. Using cardboard, Dyson components and tape, they designed and built creative solutions before presenting their ideas to their peers.

The James Dyson Foundation aims to inspire young people to explore engineering through hands-on challenges and real-world problem solving, giving students the opportunity to experience innovation in action.
