English Chamber Orchestra Workshop

One of the highlights of the musical calendar is the annual workshop with our professional orchestra-in-partnership, the English Chamber Orchestra. On 27th February, six players from the ECO came to CH for an afternoon of music making, in preparation for the Angus Ross Gala Concert on Sunday 22nd March.

Several pupils had one-to-one lessons, including two of the Angus Ross soloists, Molly (Glière Horn Concerto) and George (Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending), both from GR/Year 13. The visiting musicians also led sectional rehearsals, and played alongside our Symphony Orchestra in a full rehearsal towards the end of the day. It was also a great privilege to have three of the players perform for us during the cookie and juice break!

Judging by the sound of the Symphony Orchestra by the end of the day, being coached by and playing alongside members of the ECO was a real inspiration, and really encouraged our pupils to raise their game. We very much look forward to welcoming members of the ECO back for the Angus Ross in a few weeks’ time.
