During half term, the Food and Nutrition Department took students on a hugely enjoyable gastronomic trip to Naples in Italy.

The group visited various food factories and establishments and learned how to make everything from gelato and pasta to fresh buffalo mozzarella and olive oil. A highlight was learning how to make pizza in a proper pizza oven, which was great fun and the results delicious!

Students went on fascinating tours within working factories where they saw for themselves how pasta and olive oil is made. They also visited working farms and saw how products are made full cycle, with the buffalo farm being a highlight for many; students enjoyed seeing how the buffalo live on the farm, how well they are looked after and how they are milked. They then learned how the milk is turned into mozzarella and many other products from milk to gelato and chocolate spread.

In between all the food related activities, there was a trip to Pompeii as well as to the Museo Archeologico di Paestum, which were both super interesting. Students also had time to explore Sorrento, renowned for its wonderful lemons, which have been prized for centuries for their intense flavour and healthy properties.

All in all, it was a fantastic and thoroughly enjoyable trip, with students gaining lots of inspiration and knowledge relevant to their studies.
