It was a delight to welcome Jennifer Gilbert to give a lecture to art students on 17 November 2025.
Jennifer, of the Jennifer Lauren gallery, spoke about her career as a gallerist, curator, and advocate for disabled, neurodivergent, learning disabled, deaf, self-taught and overlooked artists. It is a mark of her dedication to this cause that one of the artists she champions, Nnena Kalu, has been nominated for this year’s Turner Prize. Jennifer spoke with passion about her commitment to raising awareness of the plight of these artists and having to educate curators, establishments and arts funding awarding bodies in how to make these artists’ work more accessible to the wider public, from the acknowledgement that they are genuine artists in the first place, to how best to present their work and how to make it accessible for all.
GR (Year 13) student Ru said:
‘It was an insightful and admirable look into the practice of those who exist on the peripheries of artistic institutions.’
