Jeremy thrived during his years at Horsham, a keen participant in many sports, as well as academic subjects. He was also happy to compete in cake eating competitions at various local eating establishments on the rare family visits during term time., and was a practical joker , removing the boards from his neighbours’ beds in the dorm and watching with glee as they subsided to the floor on the unsupported mattress!
On leaving CH he obtained his BSc in Mining Engineering at Imperial College ,London, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Management at the University of London.
His main career was then in mining, commencing in Northern Rhodesia where he met and married Jenny, a nurse who was born and brought up in Bulawayo, followed by contracts in Malaysia, Tasmania, and mainland Australia, then finally back to Rhodesia/ Zimbabwe. There they had many happy years together with their children Karen and Andy, enjoying the proximity of the wildlife, so much so that he actually became chairman of the Matabeleland branch of Wildlife and Environment Zimbabwe.
Eventually he and Jenny returned to the UK and settled in Wivenhoe, Essex , where both were heavily involved as volunteers with the local Helping Hands Group, amongst others, and Jeremy enthusiastically offered brute force when needed to clear local pathways and public spaces. He will be sorely missed by many local friends and neighbours who have benefited from his dedication and good humour, as well as family and friends around the world.
He never forgot his years at Housey, and for a while organised some of the Essex & Suffolk Old Blues reunions, keeping in touch with some of them to the end.
