On 6 June, we were delighted to welcome back our Ambassador of Expeditionary Education, Linda Blakely, to inspire our students with an account of her recent solo row across the Atlantic Ocean.

Linda set sail from Gran Canaria at the end of January, in a 12-foot Rannoch 10 boat named Ulster Warrior, bound for Barbados. Her solo expedition spanned 3,000 nautical miles, and took 54 days, challenging Linda both physically and mentally to her very limits.

During Linda’s visit, she spent time with the LE (Year 9) Expeditionary Education students and gave a talk to the Second Form (Year 7), Third Form (Year 8) and Upper Fourth (Year 10). Students were fascinated to hear all about her adventure and how she braved unpredictable weather conditions, formidable waves and countless tribulations, to cross the Atlantic. There was the opportunity for students to ask questions at the end of the presentation, which they made full use of, showing quite how engaged an audience they were.

It is safe to say that everyone was thoroughly inspired by Linda’s account of her incredible feat. Christ’s Hospital is truly lucky to have a real-life adventurer as ambassador to our Expeditionary Education programme!
