The Christ’s Hospital Band marched in the Lord Mayor’s Show on 9 November again this year, reaffirming the school’s historic connections with the City of London. The musicians were number 116 in the running order of 141 participants and were featured in BBC coverage of the event.

‘It was a special honour again this year that the Lord Mayor’s cavalcade turned in behind and followed the Christs’ Hospital Band once we reached Mansion House, essentially making us the Lord Mayor’s personal band all the way through the rest of the morning’s parade’ said Band Director, Tim Carter.

‘Students taking part ranged from Third Form (Year 8) through to Grecians (Year 13) and all performed fantastically, remaining in good spirits despite the colder weather on the day.’

The Lord Mayor’s Show is a large, colourful parade in London that celebrates the new Lord Mayor each year and is the world’s oldest civic procession. It includes marching bands, military detachments, carriages, dance troupes, and more.

The Christs’ Hospital Band first attended the Lord Mayor’s Show in 1974, and then again in 1981, and so impressed the Lord Mayor that it has been invited to participate every year since!
