Born on 2nd July 1939, Helen won a scholarship to Hertford in 1950, having been awarded an Almoner’s place under the London County Council scheme operating at that time. She became Deputy Head Girl in 1957/58.
After CH, Helen read History at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford. It was here that she met David, her husband, and they married in 1963. 2025 marked their 62nd wedding anniversary.
After Oxford, Helen worked for Shell until the birth of their daughter Sarah in 1967, followed by a second daughter Lucy in 1971. Helen and David have 5 grandchildren.
Helen greatly valued the education she was so fortunate to receive at Hertford.
