HLB Etherton (Basil) died suddenly but peacefully while out walking near Newtown, Hampshire, on 21st August 2024. He was visiting another Old Blue at the time, Philip Flory, who was part of a network of close friends from school that he maintained throughout his life.
Basil was a proud Old Blue, playing for the rugby club in the 60’s and regularly attending Old Blues Days, associated events and frequently pestering a previous editor of The Blue on various school-related whims. An American marching horn, which somehow ended up in his possession, was donated to the school band earlier this year.
A celebration of a good 87-year innings will be held at Newtown Village Hall on 3rd October from noon.
