died on November 21, 2024, in McKinney, Texas, USA.
Richard was born in Exmouth, Devonshire in the United Kingdom on May 8, 1932.
Richard’s father and paternal grandfather were both Captains in the Royal Navy and Richard
attended Christ’s Hospital from the age of nine on an Admiralty presentation, following his
older brother James, who attended Christ’s Hospital from 1935-1943. Both boys were in

British Merchant Navy (Merchant Marine), eventually qualifying as Master (Captain). In 1967,
Richard immigrated to Texas in the USA where he remained in the maritime industry for many
years, including 24 years as a marine surveyor, until retiring to La Grange in Fayette County,
Texas.
After retiring, Richard reconnected with Christ’s Hospital, attended The Middleton B Reunion in
2000, and made regular annual donations over the last 20 years, through Friends of Christ’s
Hospital, including a generous legacy gift in his will.
Richard was a member of the St. James’ Episcopal Church, a regular assistant at Second Chance
Emporium, Amen, La Grange Noon Lions Club, a Texas Real Estate Broker, and for nine years
was Honorary Secretary of the U.S. Gulf Branch of The Nautical Institute.
Richard’s wife, Ann, died in 1999, and Richard’s brother James in 2009. Richard is survived by
his son, Michael and his son’s wife Therese of The Woodlands, Texas, and grandchildren Emily
and Andrew, and by his son Peter and his wife Maria, and grandson Jonas of Stockholm,
Sweden. He is also survived by his only daughter, Jennifer Dixon of McKinney, Texas, and
various nieces and nephews, and family in the U.K. Memorial donations for Richard Dixon
