Submitted by Emma, Lucy and Victoria (Roger’s daughters)

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Roger Paul Eades on 13th September 2025, aged 82.

Roger was born in August 1943 in Hammersmith. Tragically his father was killed in action in North Africa before he was born which, after attending primary school in London, afforded him the opportunity to enrol at Christ’s Hospital in 1953. He attended CH from 1953 – 1961 in Prep A followed by Thornton A. His time at CH was to have a lasting impact on his life.

After leaving, he remained a wonderful supporter of the school for several decades, serving on the Audit Committee and the boards of Bluecoat Sports and CH Enterprises, as well as acting as Secretary of the Founders’ Day Dinner and as a donation governor.

Throughout all these roles his colleagues not only admired his dedication, hard work, loyalty and commitment, but he was also respected as a wonderful Old Blue and friend.

Two of his three daughters also attended CH, Lucy (Coleridge B, 1991 – 1998) and Victoria (Coleridge B, 1992 – 1999).

After school, Roger was recruited by BP, who sent him to Portsmouth College in 1962 to complete a Diploma in Commerce.

After his first job at BP, Roger had a short spell at Air Products; however, most of his working life was spent at Rank Xerox where he excelled; carving out an extremely successful career with senior management roles in Finance, Quality, Planning & Leasing. All his colleagues refer to his qualities and values which made him so successful in the workplace; his gentle nature, professionalism and calmness under pressure, and always taking the time with those he managed. He worked a brief stint in Ireland before taking early retirement in his mid-fifties.

The numerous letters, messages and cards after his death from friends and work colleagues all agree that he was a true gentleman, courteous, personable and well respected. Simply, ‘one of the very best.’

Roger was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his daughters and later his grandchildren. He was a loving, caring and hands-on Dad and Grandad. Outside of family, his main hobbies were sailing, rugby union, walking and a daily Sudoku!

Although he had various minor ailments over the last few years, including an early stage Parkinsons diagnosis, the prognosis was favourable, and he had a very positive attitude. His sudden and unexpected death has come as a huge shock to everyone.

He is survived by his former wife, and good friend, Jacky, his three beloved daughters – Emma, Lucy & Victoria – and six adored grandchildren – Martha, Oliver, Daniel, Amy, Sophie and James.

Roger was a fun, generous, loving, kind and calm man with a dry sense of humour. His family meant the world to him, and him to them. He will be missed more than words can say and he will hold a special place in our hearts forever.

In loving memory of Roger Paul Eades, 1943 – 2025.
