Old Blues Rugby Update
Old Blues RFC return to playing and plan to build balcony and home ground in Motspur Park
We have returned to training as of Monday 29th March, and the RFU have informed us that contact games can take place from 26th April so we now have a clearer picture of what the end of the season and beyond will look like. Namely:
– 29th March we shall go back to 2 training sessions per week on Mondays and Wednesdays;
– From 1st May we shall aim for one fixture a week until 22nd May (included);
– 29th May will be the Silver Fox game, which will be the final game of the season.
If we continue to progress on the Covid roadmap this will mean the clubhouse will be open inside and out and allow us to come together and celebrate properly;
– June and July will revert to touch on Clapham Common; and
– First week of August back for pre-season training.
In this time we are actively recruiting new players and invite you to come down to experience what Old Blues RFC is all about with no major obligations. So if you want to get back into rugby, or are considering a new club and let them know they are welcome. Recruiting new players is the number one priority between now and the summer. Building of new Balcony at the clubhouse in Motspur Park
It is with great pleasure we announce that we have received planning permission from Merton council to build the long awaited balcony! We hope for building to commence as soon as possible with it being complete for the 21/22 season. You can see images attached and the planning application here: https://planning.merton.gov.uk/MVM/Online/DMS/DocumentViewer.aspx?pk=1000111055&SearchType=Planning%20Application
We are very excited to add this to the clubhouse and it continues to show our commitment to modernise the clubhouse after the considerable efforts last summer. Even more, inexpensive but labour intensive changes will continue to be made to ensure Old Blues is a fantastic place for people to meet, socialise and celebrate. We look forward to seeing you all soon.
As always, we are keen to hear from and have people involved who can help continue to drive the club forward in any capacity. So much has happened in the last year and we look forward to be back playing!
