Old Blue Awarded OAM for Services to Community Health

Share

Congratulations to Barrie Littlefield (MaA, LaA 69-76) who has been awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the 2025 Australia Day Honours, recognising his outstanding service to community health.

With a career spanning several decades, Barrie has worked extensively across the healthcare sector, beginning in pharmaceutical sales and marketing before moving into PR and communication consultancy, specialising in issues and crisis management. His professional path later led him to global patient advocacy in brain cancer — a cause that became deeply personal following the loss of his 10‑year‑old daughter, Eloise, to glioblastoma in 2011.

In this role, Barrie played a pivotal part in establishing the Australian Brain Cancer Mission (ABCM), securing a landmark AUD $130 million (approximately £65 million) in combined government and philanthropic funding over ten years. The initiative has become a major force in advancing research, treatment, and support for those affected by brain cancer.

Congratulations Barrie on this richly deserved honour.
