In his volunteer-driven work, as Chair of the Turing Welchman Bombe Rebuild Trust, Paul Kellar (LaB 57-66) keeps the legacy of wartime ingenuity alive, enabling the public and students to connect with the ground-breaking technology that helped shape the course of history during the Second World War.
Paul is instrumental in preserving the Bombe – an electromechanical machine that played a crucial role in breaking the Enigma cipher. At The National Museum of Computing, Paul ensures this vital piece remains fully functional, offering hands-on experiences that educate and inspire future generations.
‘We demonstrate the entire codebreaking process, offering visitors a unique insight into the extraordinary ingenuity of the WWII Bletchley Park team. I find immense satisfaction in applying the engineering skills and problem-solving mindset that were first taught to me during my time at Christ’s Hospital.’
Did you know? During the Second World War, six Old Blues and three Christ’s Hospital masters worked at Bletchley Park.
