In a remarkable display of academic excellence, 10 students from Christ’s Hospital have received offers from the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge universities. Among the successful applicants, all three candidates who applied to Cambridge University to study music have been offered places, marking an exceptional achievement for the school’s music programme. Beyond music, students have also received offers to study a diverse range of subjects such as medicine, PPE (philosophy, politics and economics), biomedical engineering, classics, geography, philosophy and linguistics.
The students’ success has drawn praise and recognition from the school’s leadership. ‘We are incredibly proud of our students’ accomplishments in securing offers from Oxford and Cambridge Universities. The success of all three music applicants to Cambridge is particularly noteworthy and reflects the dedication and talent nurtured within our music department’ remarked Simon Reid, Head Teacher. ‘Whether they received offers or not, all our Oxbridge applicants worked very hard towards their applications and deserve congratulations; they will no doubt flourish at their eventual destinations.’
In preparation for their applications, our Oxbridge applicants underwent a thorough and detailed support programme at CH. This included detailed input into many different facets of a successful application: how to select the right college, understanding the grades they would need to be successful and effective interview technique, as well as off-site mock interviews to support them becoming more proficient in discussing their chosen subjects.
Will Richards, Head of Sixth Form, said ‘Oxbridge universities place ever more weight on students’ supercurricular pursuits – anything that falls outside of normal lessons but is specifically related to the subject the student wants to study – such as entering essay competitions, attending talks, pursuing work experience placements and other challenges. All of our successful candidates have amassed a vast portfolio of such activities which will have played a large part in their success.’
Christ’s Hospital continues to uphold its tradition of providing a world-class education that empowers students to strive for the highest levels of achievement. The school’s dedication to fostering academic and personal growth ensures that our students are well-equipped to make meaningful contributions to their chosen fields and society at large.
