Poetry Open Mic

On 8 March, nine of our Deputy Grecians (Year 12) attended a poetry open mic event, at Waterstones in Horsham, organised by the Shelley Memorial Project.

The event was in celebration of International Women’s Day and featured poetry readings by local poets Liz Barnes, Kate Collier, Nicola Garrard and Ted Gooda. All of the poetry performed reflected the event’s theme of the strength, resilience and achievements of women. All of the students that attended are part of the student-led Poetry Appreciation Society at CH, and three of them took to the mic for the first time in public, each performing a poem on the open mic; two of which were written by themselves.

The students enjoyed their first experience of a poetry open mic event and getting to meet and mingle with the well-known local poets, coming away inspired by this experience of performance poetry.
