On Sunday 9 November, we held our annual Remembrance Day Service and wreath-laying ceremony, a solemn and significant occasion in the school calendar.
Following the chapel service, pupils left in silence and assembled by house in the Quad. The Band then marched in, followed by the school’s cadet contingents and the formal procession.
The Act of Remembrance took place in front of the school’s War Memorial, which commemorates those who gave their lives in the World Wars. The WW1 memorial tablets, designed by Sir Aston Webb, are displayed on the outside of Dining Hall. Wreaths were laid in tribute to the fallen, and the school observed a moment of silence.
To conclude the event, pupils quietly dispersed across the Quad to plant their poppies, following the lead of the Band, Monitors, Grecians and House Captains. This moving act of collective remembrance served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifice and service of generations past, and the enduring importance of remembering them.
