The senior Music Scholars took centre-stage on the evening of Tuesday 30th October, in a programme rich in both skill and variety. Oscar’s (Gr/Yr 13) pure tone and colourful expression brought a freshness to the first movement of Hummel’s celebrated Trumpet Concerto at the top of the bill, with Maria (Gr/Yr 13) and Amber (DG/Yr 12) demonstrating impressive virtuosic control of their instruments in Monti’s Czardas and the Allegretto from Gaubert’s Sonata No. 3 respectively. New Music Scholar Molly (DG/Yr 12) played the first movement of Mozart’s Horn Concerto No. 3 with a real presence and poise.
The singing department was well represented, with impressive performances of Dowland, Wolf, and Sondheim. The concert closed with a vocal group, assembled and spearheaded by Arthur (DG/Yr12), who performed The King’s Singers’ arrangement of Billy Joel’s timeless classic And so it goes.
As ever, thanks to our talented team of teachers who cajole and inspire; to our accompanists; and to our Music Scholars, who did themselves, and the department, proud. Bravo!
