The Year 9 (LE) poetry competition was based on the subject of the ‘Portrait’ and took inspiration from the art department's photography competition held at CH last term, the theme of which was inspired by the portraiture of international photographer, James Mollison.
English teacher, Kim Franklin, read the best poems from each English set and chose Amber Dansoh as her winner. The Year 9 pupils also read the short-listed poems and chose their own, 'readers' winner', who was Amelie Palmer.
Amber based her poem on Megan Wong’s photograph. This portrait won Megan first prize in the senior section. Amber said: “I really liked the contrast between the sharpness of the rain on the camera lens and the softness of the girl in the rain.”
