This past half term, Christ’s Hospital students have achieved outstanding results across a series of national mathematics competitions organised by the UK Maths Trust (UKMT).

In the Mathematical Olympiad for Girls, which attracts between 2,000 and 5,000 entrants nationally, both of our two entrants achieved Distinction Awards – a remarkable accomplishment in such a selective competition.

In the newly introduced Mathematical Competition for Girls, six CH students took part, with four earning Distinction Awards. This impressive showing highlights both the strength and enthusiasm of our female mathematicians.

The highlight of the term was the Senior Mathematical Challenge, the UKMT’s flagship competition aimed at sixth form students. According to the UKMT, over 100,000 students nationally participated in the 2025 challenge, which tests mathematical reasoning and problem-solving rather than rote knowledge.

At Christ’s Hospital, over 110 pupils from the four oldest year groups took part, with 86 students earning Bronze, Silver or Gold awards. Notably, 22 students achieved the top Gold Award, qualifying them for the next round on 19 November, with two progressing even further to the British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1.

In total, 22 Gold, 22 Silver, and 42 Bronze awards were achieved, demonstrating an excellent standard across all year groups.

With around 30 students expected to take part in the next round, these results reflect the school’s strong tradition of mathematical excellence and the continued dedication of both students and staff.
