Dominic achieved A*A*AA and A* in his EPQ, and is going to study Music at Durham University.

I’m from Hong Kong, and when I decided I wanted to study in the UK, Christ’s Hospital was one of the schools recommended to me. I didn’t really want to come and I arrived knowing nothing about the traditions, marching or uniform. But within a few weeks, I realised I’d found exactly what I was looking for.

I wanted a school that felt traditionally British, with a beautiful chapel, a strong musical tradition and a boarding community. Christ’s Hospital turned out to be all of those things and I made some genuinely good friends who took me under their wing from day one.

The musical side of Christ’s Hospital was a big attraction and music has been at the heart of my time here. I’ve been fortunate enough to perform a solo in the Angus Ross Concert, become a Senior Organ Scholar and even step in for Mr Bartlett (the director of music) when he’s been away conducting the choir. Those are opportunities I’ll never forget.

One of the biggest highlights was playing the lead role in Les Misérables – despite it being my first ever musical. I actually auditioned for a different part, but my singing teacher suggested I try one of the songs from the lead role instead.

The whole experience was brilliant and terrifying at the same time. I loved doing the show and it remains one of the best things I’ve ever done. Interestingly, it also helped me realise that I don’t actually want a career in musical theatre. Without that opportunity, I might never have discovered that.

Looking back, I’m probably most proud of how I’ve integrated into school life as an international student. Music gave me an instant community and helped me make friendships that will last a lifetime. As international student representative, I’ve tried to help other overseas students feel that same sense of belonging and encourage them to become part of school life.

I’ve grown enormously since joining the school and I feel ready for whatever comes next. I’ll miss the music, of course, but more than anything, I’ll miss the people. There will always be more opportunities in life, but the friendships you build at school are unique.
