Food and Nutrition
The Food and Nutrition Department is a lively and energetic department, where you will find students deboning chicken thighs, stirring risottos or in clouds of icing sugar when making buttercream for celebration cakes. Our staff is enthusiastic and excited by food, sharing their knowledge and expertise with our students.
The skills gained in the department are invaluable to all students who walk through our doors, providing essential life skills, nutritional knowledge and a multitude of practical cookery and baking skills. These skills provide great value in specific university degrees including food and nutrition, dietetics and food science. Many study food and nutrition to aid in progressing into medicine, as well as many other areas.
The department’s vision is to encourage creativity and enthusiasm in all things related to food, as well as excellent nutritional knowledge to utilise in daily life.
Resources
The Food and Nutrition Department is an extremely well-equipped department. Facilities consist of individual cookery units with own cooker, induction hob, sink, fridge and basic everyday equipment. There is also a vast array of extensive equipment including dehydrators, ice-cream makers, food processors, microwaves and much more!
We look forward to welcoming you here.
“Cooking is all about people. Food is maybe the only universal thing that really has the power to bring everyone together. No matter what culture, everywhere around the world, people eat together.”
