Based in Horsham, Christ’s Hospital is a unique co-educational boarding school and charitable Foundation, which provides first class education for over 900 children from all backgrounds, supported by over 400 members of staff.

We are now looking for a versatile artist or graduate to join our thriving Art Department in this one year fixed term post. The post would be ideal for a postgraduate, practicing artist with a range of creative skills, who has studied a degree within a relevant field as well as an interest in teaching. Although experience of working with children would be preferable, it is not essential.

The resident will assist with the teaching of Art to all year groups and be expected to aid in all areas of running the department, giving workshops and talks, culminating the year with a solo exhibition. In addition they will undertake a range of duties that contribute to the wider running of the school, including exam invigilation, cover and house tutoring. Single-person accommodation with heating, lighting and meals while on duty will be provided. A large studio space and a £1,000 allowance for materials will be available. The resident will be paid an annual salary of £14,500.

A positive approach to learning, a caring and enthusiastic attitude and the ability to work in a team and a willingness to participate fully in the broader life of this busy boarding community is essential. The successful candidate will be required to undertake at least one evening duty in a boarding house each week.  This is an ideal post for an outstanding individual considering teaching as a profession in future.  All meals during term-time when on duty are provided as part of the package and there is accommodation on site available. The salary will be paid across the whole contract.

We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff that match the social and cultural diversity of our student intake. We consider the most important factor to be the right skills, abilities and attitude for the job which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils.  Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
