Drama Graduate Assistant
Christ’s Hospital is looking for a versatile drama graduate to join its body of academic staff for a one year fixed term period until August 2024. The successful candidate will participate in all aspects of school life including taking part in some teaching and/or broader curriculum coaching or supervision as well as pastoral support of pupils in and out of lessons.
The role of the Drama Graduate Assistant is to work alongside the existing team of Drama staff, assisting them in the running of the department from teaching groups of pupils through to preparing for performances. It is hoped that the successful Drama Graduate will immerse themselves in the department, becoming an integral part of the team.
The Drama Graduate Assistant will work a flexible timetable bearing in mind that Christ’s Hospital is a full boarding school and that rehearsals can take place in the afternoons, evenings, and weekends in term time. Weekly duties will be decided upon by the Director of Drama at weekly meetings in consultation with them.
The Drama Graduate Assistant will have some teaching periods per week, teaching Junior classes and, whilst they are not required to have prior teaching experience, an interest in education and a preference for working with young people is beneficial.
The Drama Graduate is expected to conduct themselves like a full-time member of staff with all the respective privileges, and they will be involved in some of the regular duties of a teacher including preparing schemes of work, taking registers, reporting absences, report writing, assessment, marking, praise and sanctions. They will also be involved with other pastoral duties within the school.
A positive approach to learning, a caring and enthusiastic attitude and the ability to work in a team and a willingness to participate fully in the broader life of this busy boarding community is essential. The successful candidate will be required to undertake at least one evening duty in a boarding house each week. This is an ideal post for an outstanding individual considering teaching as a profession in future. All meals during term-time when on duty are provided as part of the package and there is accommodation on site available. The salary will be paid across the whole contract.
