Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Lead
We are looking for a person who is passionate about making a difference for young people from all backgrounds and has a deep and genuine personal and professional understanding of EDI issues, to become our first full-time EDI Lead from September 2022.
This exciting opportunity will suit a team player who is emotionally intelligent, diplomatic, creative and resilient, with excellent judgement, strong communication skills, integrity and sensitivity to the complexities of the work. This wide-ranging and rewarding role will involve working closely with our young people (aged 11 to 18), liaising widely with colleagues and meeting regularly with members of the senior leadership team to help embed an inclusive culture across every area of school life.
The successful candidate may have a background as an educator, perhaps in FE, in youth work, social work or similar, or in higher education, but their personal qualities, experience of EDI issues, skills and commitment will be more important than the context of their professional career to date.
Christ’s Hospital is unique. We are strikingly unlike any other independent school in the UK, with a richly diverse pupil body, in terms of ethnicity and socio-economic background. More than 75% of our pupils are on some form of financial support, with a considerable number receiving full bursaries. We are looking for an EDI Lead who will represent and understand our pupils’ backgrounds, needs and concerns.
We envisage this new role as a non-teaching post, but the successful candidate will build relationships and establish their key place within the School by contributing to pastoral, broader curricular or other aspects of school life, according to their interests, experience and abilities. To make this possible, we can offer onsite accommodation or support with moving costs to enable the successful candidate to relocate if desired.
If you would like to find out more, we would love to welcome you to see the School in action on our Open Morning on Saturday 30 April 2022. This event should provide you with the opportunity to discuss your individual circumstances or availability. Please book your place by following the link. Where the form asks you to let us know how you heard about us, please choose ‘Other’ and enter ‘EDI Lead’.
We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff that match the social and cultural diversity of our diverse pupil body. We consider the most important factor to be the right skills, abilities and attitude for the job which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
Applications should be submitted by 9am on Monday 9th May 2022 to HR@christs-hospital.org.uk. Interviews will take place at the School shortly afterwards.
Christ’s Hospital is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants are required to complete an enhanced disclosure application with the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service). More details on the disclosure process can be found on www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check.
