Working at Christ’s Hospital
Electrician
We are looking for an Electrician to join our busy Building's Maintenance Team.
Christ’s Hospital School is situated in 1,200 acres of Sussex countryside, with an extensive and diverse range of building and facilities. Our Building Maintenance Department manages both the school and residential buildings, most dating back to the early 1900s.
Reporting to the Building Maintenance Manager, you will be City & Guilds A&B/1&2 (or later equivalent) and IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, qualified in all aspects of electrical work and willing to complete subsequent relevant training/re-training. Applicants should have experience gained on both domestic and large commercial installations preferably in a School, University, FE College or NHS environment.
The position requires you to work alone using your initiative to complete works to programme, although you should be comfortable working alongside other tradespersons as the need arises. A key part of the role is to successfully identify the appropriate response to a maintenance request and deliver that response professionally and sympathetically in accordance with the school’s needs. You will ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with relevant statutes, current technical standards and best practice.
The position is 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a salary from £35,000 plus allowances depending on experience. Benefits include 31 days’ holiday (includes all public holidays), a stakeholder pension scheme for eligible staff, free on-site parking, use of the Employee Assistance Programme and Aviva Digicare+ Scheme (including 24-hour online GP appointments), free lunch during term-time and discounted membership of the on-site Sports Centre.
Applications should be received by 9:00am on 16th February 2026 although applications will be reviewed as they are received so early application is advisable, and we reserve the right to close this vacancy early should a suitable candidate apply. Interviews will be held 19th and 20th February 2026 on site.
We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff that match the social and cultural diversity of our student intake. We consider the most important factor to be the right skills, abilities and attitude for the job which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
For further information and to apply please complete the application form by pressing on the Download tabs. We are unable to accept CVs alone and the School’s application form must be completed in full.
Christ’s Hospital is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful applicants are required to complete an enhanced disclosure application with the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).
