Director of Expeditionary Education
Christ’s Hospital is pleased to announce a search for a candidate to become the School’s first full-time Director of Expeditionary Education, from January 2023 or sooner (if available), or later (if necessary). We are looking for an outdoor education enthusiast who is passionate about making a difference to young people from all backgrounds, someone who also has a comprehensive professional understanding of outdoor or expeditionary education.
This exciting opportunity will suit someone with experience in outdoor education who is prepared to establish a new expeditionary curriculum alongside existing outdoor education programmes at the School. We are searching for a person whose work at CH will improve provision significantly for pupils’ outdoor experience. This rewarding role will involve working closely with our young people (aged 11 to 18) and embedding Expeditionary Education as a central contributor to the culture of the School.
The successful candidate will have a background in outdoor education, either directly through national programmes, or through the running of it in another school. Whilst this post may suit an existing teacher – it could combine teaching with leading on Expeditionary Education – the successful candidate does not have to have worked in schools before nor be a formally-trained teacher. Previous work with young people would be preferable.
Christ’s Hospital is strikingly unlike any other independent school in the UK, with a richly diverse pupil body, in terms of ethnicity and socio-economic background. More than 75% of our pupils are on some form of financial support, with a considerable number receiving full bursaries.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a full part in the broader curriculum as well as school and boarding duties. To support this expectation, we may be able to offer onsite accommodation. Salary will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate based on the salary scale range £29,815-£43,701 per annum.
Don’t hesitate to get in touch for an informal chat if you would find it helpful to understand more about how you might be able to work with us by contacting our HR department (HR@christs-hospital.org.uk) who will arrange a conversation for you.
Applications must be received by Monday 7th November 2022 and interview will take place on site at the school on Tuesday 15th November 2022.
We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff that match the social and cultural diversity of our diverse pupil body. We consider the most important factor to be the right skills, abilities and attitude for the job which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils. Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
