Houseparent

Closing date for application: 13/04/2023 9:00am

Interview date: 21/04/2023

Vacancy Type: Full-Time

Location:

For nearly five centuries, Christ’s Hospital has pioneered social mobility and challenged social inequality to provide an unrivalled start in life for disadvantaged children. As economic and social inequality continue to grow in the UK, Christ’s Hospital’s mission is as relevant today as it was in 1552.  Christ’s Hospital is unique. We are strikingly unlike any other independent school in the UK, with a richly diverse pupil body, in terms of ethnicity and socio-economic background.  More than 75% of our pupils are on some form of financial support, with a considerable number receiving full bursaries.

We have a vacancy for a House Parent for one of our eight boys’ boarding houses. The house runs from Year 7 through to Year 12 and is home to around fifty pupils. Boarding is at the heart of Christ’s Hospital life and the positive transformation that we can achieve with our pupils is as a direct result of the outstanding pastoral care we provide. We expect our House Parents to teach at the school and we would expect applicants to have a relevant teaching qualification and the ability to offer a subject to GCSE or A Level.  Innovation, flair, and vision are highly valued, as is the ability to inspire pupils both in and out of the classroom.

We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff that match the social and cultural diversity of our student intake. We consider the most important factor to be the right skills, abilities and attitude for the job which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils.  Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Applicants should evidence in the personal statement how they meet the requirements of the role and person specification. Christ’s Hospital has its own pay scale, starting at £28,218 and reaching £43,701 depending on teaching experience.  House parents receive an additional allowance (on an increasing scale) starting from £12,949 for those housed in a flat and increasing after two and five years in post.  In addition, House Parents have a substantial remission from teaching and gas, electric, water rates and Council Tax are covered by the School. Full participation in the broader life of this busy boarding community is essential and accommodation is included.
