Matron Manager

Closing date for application: 20/02/2023 9:00pm

Vacancy Type: Full-Time

Christ’s Hospital is a full boarding school with eighteen boarding houses and operates a seven-day a week programme. This exciting, newly formed strategic role focuses upon both managing and moving the Matron’s department forward into the next decade. While the job role is for term time only, Monday to Friday (7.15am to 5pm with 30 minutes for lunch), the successful candidate will be expected to work at home from time-to-time outside of these hours. Managing and supporting a team of Matrons will be the primary responsibility, alongside providing the key link between the Matron department and the Senior Leadership Team. It is anticipated that there will be sufficient time for the holder of this post to cover when a Matron is absent in a boarding house, up to a maximum of three days per week.

The post holder will also be on call each evening, Monday to Friday (6pm to 10.30pm) to drive pupils to hospital, where required. The maximum expectation would be three journeys per week, but often it will be far fewer than this. For this reason, accommodation on site is available for applicants, if required

The Matron Manager will lead the Matron department, guiding and support staff where appropriate; liaise regularly with the Assistant Head (Pastoral) and the Senior Matrons.  The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in a boarding school environment and ideally, previous experience of managing or leading a team.  They will have sensitivity to the needs of young people, good organisational skills, flexibility and the ability to work with others are essential to carry out this important role.  The post operates mainly in term time (33 weeks per year) although you will also be required to work up to 3 additional days before the start and after the end of each term.

We offer an attractive remuneration package of £28,500 pa (plus accommodation and meals when on duty during term time) including a stakeholder pension scheme for eligible staff, free on-site parking, low-cost membership of the on-site Sports Centre and lunch whilst on duty during term time.  Annual leave must be taken during school holidays only.

We welcome applications from all sectors of the community as we aspire to attract staff that match the social and cultural diversity of our student intake. We consider the most important factor to be the right skills, abilities and attitude for the job which will ultimately improve the well-being and education of the pupils.  Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.

Completed application forms should be sent to by 9am on Monday 20th February 2023. Interviews will be held on site at the school shortly after.

Christ’s Hospital is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  All successful applicants are required to complete an enhanced disclosure application with the DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service).  More details on the disclosure process can be found on
