On 19 September, we were delighted to welcome author Abi Daré to deliver a lecture on the life-changing power of books.

DG (Year 12) pupil Charlene, wrote the following review of the event:

The visit from best-selling author Abi Daré was well received by the many pupils and staff who were all captivated by her talk, in which she shared the stories that helped shape her renowned book ‘The Girl with the Louding Voice’ and the difficulties she endured that eventually led to her success. After the impactful talk, the audience were able to ask the author questions ranging from her upbringing in Nigeria where she gained inspiration for the book, to her experiences of navigating the world as a black immigrant woman, to advice for becoming a better writer, all of which she answered elegantly and informatively. For many pupils, seeing Abi Daré’s success as an author and an excellent speaker is a testament to their own ambitions. Personally, seeing someone that looked like me on that stage showed me that despite the challenges that one may face due to their social identities, through perseverance and hope we may all find our own louding voice.
