On 18 April acclaimed author and activist Laura Bates returned to CH to deliver a lecture on Everyday Sexism and Fighting Back.
Laura gave information about gender inequality and shared advice on what to do when confronted with sexist systems or behaviour. She explained how gender stereotypes are harmful to men and boys, as well as women, and exposed the dishonesty of narratives that seek to create ‘us and them’ conflicts between genders. Laura concluded by talking about her novel Sisters of Sword and Shadow which reimagines stories of Arthurian legend with female characters in heroic roles.
This was an inspiring and important event and both LE (Year 9) and Deputy Grecians (Year 12) engaged sensitively with the issues raised.
