Head Teacher’s welcome

Transformation: a word that has underpinned our approach for over 470 years.

Every child deserves the very best start in life – to be nurtured and challenged to achieve their potential and find happiness and success. As a society we must challenge inequality through transformative education which is why we pride ourselves on giving children from a wide variety of backgrounds access to the outstanding educational experience we offer.

It is the mission of Christ’s Hospital to enable those from all corners of society to come together and thrive. Social mobility matters hugely to society’s success and we aim to empower all our students to succeed in their own terms and to have a powerful impact on the world they move into.

A Christ’s Hospital student’s experience goes far beyond academic progress. Our holistic education centres on developing talent and fulfilment in a wide range of broader activities from music, theatre, sport and art to community service and outdoor pursuits. All areas of our broader curriculum aim to build a real sense of achievement, resilience, perseverance, compassion, willing service, social skills and empathy. These attributes form the pillar-strength principles of the Christ’s Hospital curriculum.

I want students to embrace and relish challenge in all its forms. They should try new things and expand their horizons. At CH our students are engaged in a unique variety of activities which challenge and excite them.

It is a joy to watch them embrace these opportunities from canoeing on our lake, competing in house singing, marching in the Quad, debating at the Model United Nations, reflecting in Chapel and relaxing with friends.

The journey our students make from the time they arrive is often profoundly rewarding, and along the way we support their growing resilience and success as they move on to university and beyond. To challenge is understood to be part of a creative, productive and transformative process, which helps equip students to shape positively the societies they belong to long after they have left. We
delight in their achievements and welcome them back to inspire and encourage current students.

We look forward to welcoming you to our remarkable school.

Our mission

Challenge inequality by providing a nurturing, transformative education for young people from all backgrounds.

The generosity of our benefactors has built up a valuable endowment over the centuries. However, Christ’s Hospital’s commitment to provide more bursary support than any other independent boarding school in the country exceeds the annual income from its endowment assets.

Philanthropy therefore remains central for Christ’s Hospital to continue to transform lives for future generations.
