Field day trip to Whale Island

On Lent Field Day, the CCF Royal Navy section went to Whale Island, Portsmouth to conduct some afloat training. The 20 cadets were split across three yachts, with five each on Amarylis and Cornish Air and the remaining ten on the larger Bellepheron.

Cadets were able to put into practice their knot tying, ship recognition and buoyage skills, as well as hoisting and lowering the sails and some basic navigation. They sailed out of the harbour and across to Cowes, where they had just enough time to run ashore for some fish and chips, before sailing back to Portsmouth!
