The term concluded – via a barnstorming run of Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd – with the usual traditions of community carol singing in Horsham and at Bluecoat Pond, two carol services, and the Big Band Concert. The carol services, as well as the Chapel Choir, included Schola Cantorum and the Gospel Choir, with the latter giving an especially moving performance of O Holy Night with a stratospheric solo from Layo (GR/Year 13). The Big Band was as classy and slick as ever, with high quality appearances from the Senior Jazz Ensemble and Dixieland Band. Some glorious solo moments throughout the concert, but Whitty’s (GE/Year 11) trumpet and flugel playing, Nina’s (DG/Year 12) trombone, and Oscar’s (GR/Year 13) singing deserve extra plaudits.
