The music recital on 13 November 2019 was an impressive showcase of the musical talent we have at the top end of the school. Every aspect pointed to a professional standard of musicianship: from the thorough preparation that had obviously taken place, to the introductions and stage presence, and, of course, the playing itself.
The programme was rich and varied, and it was particularly good to see several pupils new to Christ’s Hospital on stage. Veronica (DG /Year 12) drew the audience in with her intimate performance of Brahms’ Intermezzo in A, op. 118. Mia (DG) beguiled and entranced with the second movement of Poulenc’s Flute Sonata, whilst Tomisin (DG) displayed a mature sensitivity in the second movement of Beethoven’s well-loved Pathetique. The concert finished with a highly polished, charismatic performance of the turbulent second movement of Franck’s celebrated Violin Sonata, played by Mutsuki (DG).
My congratulations and thanks to all the performers and their teachers.
