Sheriff’s Challenge 2019

Christ’s Hospital was one of a select number of schools to be invited to participate in the 2019 Sheriffs’ Challenge, an inter-school, two-round competition. Participating schools were asked to convene a team of Year 12 students and to prepare and deliver a presentation on ‘What will be the key impacts of the digital revolution on the City of London?’ Each school was sponsored by a Livery Company who provided at least one coach to guide students through the task. The CH team of pupils was sponsored by the Guild of Entrepreneurs and was lucky enough to receive expert guidance from Paddy Willis and David Mellor.

On 13 February, Deputy Grecians Lottie, Helena, Juliet and Grecian Ben (pictured below with their coaches) travelled to London to attend the first round of the competition. Schools competed by delivering their presentations to the judging panel (independent senior livery members) and to an audience comprising sponsoring livery company mentors and supporters, teaching staff, parents and other competitors.

The CH pupils evidently impressed the judges and went through to the second and final round, along with only one other school. The final of the competition, for the Sheriffs’ Challenge Award, was held at the Old Bailey on Monday 4th March in the presence of a panel of Her Majesty’s Judges. The final was followed by a reception, award ceremony and an opportunity to network in the Grand Hall, Old Bailey.

The CH team scored a fabulous 89% but missed out winning by just 1%. Nevertheless, they did incredibly well to get so far in this very challenging and highly regarded competition. Well done to all four pupils for all their hard work and for representing the School so well!
