Talk: ‘Courage to be me’
On 24 April we were delighted to welcome award-winning filmmaker Stephané Alexandre who spoke to Second Form (Year 7) pupils on the topic ‘Courage to be me’, as part of the Junior Learning for Life programme.
Stephané is a filmmaker who for the last 15 years has worked across film, TV and digital and is passionate about British cinema and rolling out the carpet for Black and diverse characters that breathe life on screen and inspire all audiences. She is also passionate about speaking to young women aged 11 and above about a range of topics highlighting self-esteem, self-worth and race and believes that ‘perfect girls aren’t real, and real girls aren’t perfect’.
Mrs Lewis, who leads the Junior Learning for Life programme, said: ‘Our pupils absolutely loved meeting Stephané and hearing her stories. There was such a great buzz and energy in the room and we were all moved and inspired by the film clips she showed us.’
